Prior to joining Nerac, Blackwell was vice president of the Americas operations of security software producer PortWise. Prior to PortWise, he pioneered knowledge management and analytical techniques for marketing research while serving as President and General Manager of Kenosia Corporation. Other career assignments span instrumentation, automotive and system software technologies.

Blackwell began his career as an automotive engineer at General Motors Corporation where he patented computer algorithms for an antilock braking system which was named Automotive Technology of the Year -1992 by Automotive Magazine.
