An XcellR8 member since August 2018, Alex and his team at Snipit are developing a mobile application that provides users an opportunity to efficiently discover, share, or promote new music to a supporting community. Read on for more about Snipit and a brief interview with Alex, and click here to watch a video presentation.
Snipit is working on creating a social experience within their app where common music listeners and up and coming musicians can connect and communicate amongst one another. Snipit’s value resides in the ability to quickly discover new music and artists, by providing a tool where musicians can upload their song, and then select a 15-30 second snippet that they want to be shared within the app. From there, users can quickly listen to various snippets from artists of relative genres, and decipher what songs or artists they want to further explore.
Although the team has only been together for about 6 months, they have already gone through UConn’s CCEI Summer Fellowship program where they were 1 of 10 teams awarded with $15,000 of pre-seed funding and an 8-week course to support their early stage venture development.
Snipit is still in developmental and testing stages of their application, with the intent to release it to the public within one calendar year. With the support of the great mentors from the XCellR8 group, Alex has been able to enhance his network connections through a variety of different companies also existing in the music industry.
How has your involvement with the XcellR8 group contributed to your company’s success to date?
Since coming in contact with Kevin, Ripi and the XCellR8 program, we have had nothing but great experiences throughout. Every time I get the opportunity to talk with these two men or any of their colleagues, I feel much smarter than I had prior to the conversation. The guidance and support we’ve received has given our team a clearer outlook as to how we are approaching the future of our company.
How will your involvement with XcellR8 continue to help you in the future?
As we continue to grow and progress with our ESV development, the knowledge and feedback we receive from the XCellR8 group is invaluable. Being able to communicate and learn from experienced entrepreneurs provides insight that many startups struggle to access at an early stage. Having the XCellR8 group as a resource has allowed our team to not only avoid common mistakes that startups experience, but even more so have access to a support system whose only intention is to do what is best for your business. Snipit would have undoubtedly been at a standstill if not for the provision and encouragement from the XCellR8 group.
Can you share any specific XcellR8 experiences you had that were particularly important or influential?
One specific experience from the XCellR8 program that has been very helpful is our growing collaboration with another XCellR8 participant, Umergence. I attended my first XCellR8 event at Nerac in August, where David and Jeff of Umergence presented their company. Since then, Snipit is being used as a beta test for their startup funding platform. Being able to help them, while also getting the help reciprocated is a very rewarding feeling. We are very excited to continue this relationship and see where our collaboration can take both of our companies.
Best of Luck to Alex and the Snipit Team!
