“The medical device industry is vibrant and constantly evolving, facilitating advancements in medicine through engineering. The development of medical devices makes advancements in medicine possible, improving the quality of life for the sick and injured.”

Analyst Helga Weires works with medical device manufacturers, academics, and individual physicians from around the world developing diagnostic and therapeutic devices. She guides clients through technical and intellectual property issues regarding medical devices for all branches of medicine, including orthopedics, cardiology and internal medicine.

She also helps with the development of diagnostic and therapeutic systems for infectious disease, wound management, cancer, oral surgery, organ transplant, and plastic surgery. Mrs. Weires worked as an independent engineering contractor, supporting engineering and IP efforts in developing cardiac catheters and introducers. Her experience with cardiac devices started with Baxter Edwards (now Edwards Lifescience), where, as a staff engineer, she supported new product introduction into manufacturing and worked as a development team member for new diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheters. She also was a packaging operations manager for Kraft General Foods, where she specified engineered materials and methods for all U.S. Kraft facilities.
